GOATS Cycling of Galena held its annual event, Ride the Ups & Downs of Jo Daviess County, this past Saturday. Overcast skies and a bit of drizzle at the start kept the day comfortable for the nearly 220 riders who participated. Here, two riders make their way up the hill into Schapville for the day’s first rest station.

Workers at Chestnut Mountain Resort began the annual installation of its Alpine Slide a couple weeks ago. Originally installed in the Summer of 1979, the two-lane track has provided thousands of visitors with excellent views of the Mississippi and a thrilling ride down the slopes. Chestnut plans to open the slide Saturday, May 27, of Memorial Day weekend.
